“Prevention of Discrimination and Process Management at ITU” Seminar Held

Within the scope of the ITU Dean of Students Office’s DAN 102 Entrepreneurship and Career Counseling course, a seminar titled Prevention of Discrimination and Process Management at ITU was held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

We held our panel on "Intergenerational Scientific Women in Academia"

As the ITU Women's Studies Center in Science, Engineering and Technology (ITU BMT KAUM), we held our panel titled "Intergenerational Women Scientists in Academia," organized in cooperation with the Turkish Association of University Women (TURKKAB), on Wednesday, March 19 at ITU SDKM.

As the ITU Women's Studies Center in Science, Engineering and Technology, we participated in the March 8 International Women's Day “The Power of Women in Earth Sciences” Event organized by the ITU Faculty of Mines.

Search Conference on Women's Policies Focus: Istanbul

On June 20, 2025, we gathered as the Istanbul Women's Research Centers, hosted by Istanbul Nişantaşı University. This significant meeting commenced with opening remarks from Ms. Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, the Minister of Family and Social Services, and Prof. Dr. Sezer Komsuoğlu, the Coordinator of Women’s Studies at the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). During the session, the historical development and current status of women’s centers in Türkiye were discussed in detail.

As ITU Research and Application Center for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (ITU BMT KAUM), we organized our panel “Intergenerational Women in Science in Academia” in collaboration with Turkish Academic Women's Association (TÜRKKAB) on Wednesday, March 19 at ITU SDKM. In this inspiring panel, the stories of the first female academics of our country and the women scientists who followed in their footsteps were shared.

Where are girls positioned in women's research? Women's Research Centers Experience Sharing | November 22, 2024

As part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25), we gathered on Friday, November 22, at the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Gülhane Campus. Hosted by the Center for Social Studies, we brought together Women's Research Centers operating in Türkiye to re-examine initiatives for girls within the context of women’s studies. During the event, we also took a closer look at the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), sharing experiences by examining the different stages of the ITU GEP preparation process.

Istanbul Technical University Women's Studies Center in Science, Engineering and Technology (ITU BMT KAUM) is an interdisciplinary research, education, and application center that prioritizes gender equality in science, engineering, and technology fields and supports women to take a strong and effective place in academic, professional, and social spheres.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

to support equal opportunities for men and women
to increase the visibility of women's studies
to contribute to social/academic life
to increase social awareness
to develop gender-based databases and indicators

Our Center was established with the approval of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey dated
November 4, 2009.

There are 102
Women's Research Centers in Turkey, and 26
in Istanbul.

Our Center stands out among the existing
37 research centers in the university
with its inclusive role
prioritizing gender.

The GEP is an eligibility criterion for all public bodies, higher education institutions, and research organizations from EU Member States and associated countries.
