Speaking at the opening of the panel, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal drew attention to ITU’s pioneering identity from past to present as an institution that trained the first female engineers of Turkey. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal emphasized that since the day he took office, he has adopted an approach that supports women’s strong and active participation in academic, professional and social fields, and in this respect, he attaches great importance to increasing the number of women in ITU management staff.
Our center director Prof. Dr. Hatice Ayataç, in her speech where she provided information about the establishment purpose and history of BMT KAUM, emphasized that the reforms made in our country since the adoption of the Civil Code are a reflection of our Republic's understanding of modernization and equality. Prof. Dr. Ayataç drew attention to the fact that 3 of the 15 mayors who were ITU graduates and took office with the March 31 local elections are women.
In the panel, we touched on women's struggle for equal rights in politics, and we had the opportunity to discuss the representation of women in politics at the point reached today, the difficulties encountered in this regard and the solution proposals.
